Harvest for All is a partnership between the SCFB Young Farmers & Ranchers program and local food charities, which provide food to people in need around the state. Over 800,000 people in South Carolina are food insecure, meaning they live at risk of hunger, and nearly 300,000 of those people are children. Each year, County Farm Bureaus are encouraged to organize projects/activities that help bridge the food gap in the following ways:
FUNDS
Raise money for a local food bank, food kitchen or food project
FRIENDS
Volunteer time at a local food bank, food kitchen or food project
FOOD
Collect food for a local food bank, food kitchen or food project
Project How-to:
- Choose a local charitable organization and decide what type of food project would meet their needs. Contact Brittany Jeffcoat if you need assistance.
- Let your County Farm Bureau Board of Directors know which charitable organization you choose and be sure to discuss money management for a “funds” project. All funds received must be donated by Dec. 30.
- Form a team, decide on a start & end date for the project and make a plan. Feel free to cluster up with neighboring counties.
- Keep at least one of the SCFB YF&R Committee Members that represents your district informed about your project.
- Take pictures during your project.
- Track how much money, time or food (weight) you donate.
- Submit your “Harvest for All” application in the online portal by December 31st if you want your county’s project to be considered for an award.
Awards:
- The Project Winner Award: $250 - Awarded to the project that made the most impact on a local charitable organization by collecting the most funds, food, and/or volunteer hours.
- The Most Innovative Award: $250 - Awarded to a project that was creatively designed and implemented.
- Project Runner-Up Award: $100 - Awarded to the project that had the 2nd most funds, food, and/or volunteer hours.
The award monies are intended to be donated to a local charitable organization or used as seed money for a future Harvest for All project.
Application Guidelines:
- Any project can be submitted as long as it meets the Harvest for All criteria of donations of food, funds and/or friends (volunteer hours) to a local food bank in South Carolina.
- All projects must be completed, and food/funds must be donated between January 1 - December 30, 2023.
- If more than one county YF&R group worked together on the same project(s), they should submit one application together.
- The state’s entry form must be submitted via the online portal on or before 11:59 p.m. EST December 31st, 2023.
