- History

The idea of South Carolinians Betty DeWitt and Hugh Weathers, Food Check-Out Week has become a national event sponsored by the American Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee. This week celebrates the time of year when Americans have earned enough disposable income to pay for the average family’s yearly supply of food. It recognizes the bounty of American’s farms and how that bounty is shared with consumers through affordable food prices. Americans currently spend less than 11 percent of their disposable income on food.
