SC Farm Bureau Federation Announces
New License Tag Design Promoting Agriculture

Cayce, SC – The South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation (SCFB) announced a new specialty license plate Monday that promotes agriculture with the slogan “Our Farms – Our Future.” Proceeds from the sale of the tag will go to SCFB’s 501(c)3 Agriculture in the Classroom Fund to help sustain Farm Bureau’s work to equip teachers with tools to teach South Carolina children in grades pre-K through 8 the value of family farmers and the food, fiber, and fuel they produce.

The “Our Farms – Our Future” plate is among the first issued through the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) digital “on demand” process, which means the plates are not available in SCDMV field offices. Instead, the plates will be printed and mailed as vehicle owners place orders.

The fee for the specialty “Our Farms – Our Future” plates is $70 every two years in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee. Interested customers may place their license plate orders by mail or at any SCDMV field office on form MV-95. Applications will be processed within three to five business days.

The license plates promoting South Carolina’s largest economic engine took several years of designs, discussions, applications, and lobbying the legislature. The bright new plate features the prefix AG, a big red barn, green field, and bright yellow sun. The design concept and slogan was selected by SCFB members and was designed by SCFB art director Bill Johns. The idea first arose from the SCFB Young Farmer and Rancher Committee as a proactive means to promote the benefits of agriculture in the state.

SCFB President David Winkles said, “After first applying for the specialty plate under SCDMV’s administrative application process and learning that the concept did not meet State requirements for a non-profit license tag, we sought the help of the respective chairmen of the General Assembly’s agriculture committees, Senator Danny Verdin and Representative Jeff Duncan both of Laurens County. Each of these legislators recognized the value of promoting South Carolina agriculture and worked enabling legislation through their respective chambers. They also led efforts to override a gubernatorial veto of the legislation during the 2009 session. I hope every vehicle owner will consider purchasing an ‘Our Farms – Our Future’ plate to help us promote the value of farmers and domestically grown food, fiber, and fuel to young people across the state.”
