Tobacco Associates Export Promotion Referendum will be held on Wednesday, January
23, 2013. The referendum will be conducted by the Clemson Extension Service in all flue-
cured county extension offices.
Tobacco growers are being urged to vote for the continuation of their Export Promotion Programs conducted by Tobacco Associates for the next thre marketing years (2013, 2014, 2015). A positive vote for Tobacco Associates will allow the continuation of an assessment not to exceed 1/2 of one cent per pound for the growers export promotion programs. The South Carolina Tobacco Associates Board members have indicated that the future assessment will not exceed the North Carolina rate which is 20 cents per 100 pounds of 1/5 of a cent per pound.
Two-thirds of the eligible voters participating in the referendum must mark their ballot "for" in order for the programs to continue.
